How genetic information forms the basis for innovative therapies
The fascinating world of DNA
The structure and function of DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, has been the subject of intensive scientific research for decades. It serves as the central blueprint for all life on earth. While only 2-3% of the nucleic acids in DNA are directly involved in coding proteins and building new cells, the rest of the sequence contains a wealth of information that goes far beyond cell function. Modern genetics, in particular Archaeogenetics, has shown that these non-coding DNA regions provide clues as to which climates a person’s ancestors lived in, which dietary habits prevailed and – particularly relevant – which diseases occurred in the genetic line.
